travel north america united states colorado telluride

Telluride, Colorado, a historic mining town high in the Rocky Mountains southwest of Denver, has always an exotic image in my mind.
Because of its history as a mining town, and its altitude, 8,700 ft, I had always pictured Telluride jammed into a box canyon,
tall narrow old wooden buildings fighting for space along a narrow main street that could barely make it between the steep rocky slopes.
While the real town is nice, it wasn't quite the image I had created in my mind.
In reality, the box canyon is quite wide, and the surrounding "mountains" quite tame and seemingly low in comparison to my imagination.
We visited Telluride durring it's annual Blue Grass festival and the town was crowded.
Still an interesting, nice town, just not what I envisioned...
